We are back home in Falls Church now. Our last day of travel was Friday 10/5/07. We started Friday in Winham, NH and then drove to Newport, RI. Newport is an interesting city--it was a summer vacation retreat for America's richest families back in the mid to late 1800's. There are more mansions in Newport than you can count and many of them have become museums. We toured a fantastic 70 room "cottage", The Breakers, which was the summer vacation home for the Vanderbilt family. The interior was stunning, however, there were no pictures allowed inside the estate. The outdoor pictures are posted here. After we toured The Breakers and drove around to see the other mansions we decided we were too tired to keep sightseeing. We made the 8 hour drive back to DC that night instead of getting a hotel room. We had a wonderful trip, but we are happy to be sleeping in our own bed again!
